This week we talk with female entrepreneur Resa Barillas. Resa is owner of Eye Heart Creative, a community organizer and activist and a mom (just to name a few things). Resa shares her entrepreneurial journey that started when she was laid off from her job the day she came home from the hospital with her newborn son. We also talk balancing business and family, community activism, using process and structure to keep sane and the need for peers as a support network.
Resa Barillas
Resa is strategic web & brand designer, and is a 9 year WordPress veteran. Her business, Eye Heart Creative, is especially focused on working with cause-based and women-led businesses. Her journey to solopreneurship started when she received a layoff notice the day she returned home from the hospital with her newborn son. Facing the decision to return to work immediately, or finish her maternity leave without a guarantee of a job to return to, she realized she wanted to not only wanted to be hands-on in her son’s formative years, but she could do it by working for herself.
In addition to her business endeavors, Resa is a community organizer and activist, and recently co-founded the High Desert Young Democrats club where she serves as Chair. She is also a Delegate for California Assembly District 33, and serves as Secretary to the Desert Mountain Coalition.
In her spare time, she loves to cook, read, play video games with her son Cameron, and veg with her dog, Ruth Bader Ginsbark. She’s an undefeated hide-and-seek champion, former classical percussionist, and enjoys Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice & Fire tin foil theories.
