In this episode, Tera and Gretchen talk with entrepreneur Tami VandenBerg about staying connected with close friends, keeping up with productivity, and whether or not pace matters when diving into a new business. Hint: It does and it’s hard to slow down the momentum of something new and exciting.
Tami VandenBerg
Tami VandenBerg is co-owner of The Meanwhile Bar and The Pyramid Scheme. She also serves as Executive Director of Well House, and is running for 2nd Ward City Commissioner in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Tami considers herself an ‘accidental entrepreneur.’ In 2002, she and her brother purchased the building that now houses The Meanwhile. After years of stops and starts, they sold the building to get the business open in 2007. The business took off quickly, and they partnered with Mark Sellers to open The Pyramid Scheme in 2011. They eventually bought him out of the business. In 2013, Tami stepped in to try and keep the doors of Well House open. Since then, the organizations budget has increased more than ten times over and received national attention. Tami’s Campaign for 2nd Ward City Commissioner kicks off on March 23rd at The Pyramid Scheme. She has served on numerous boards, committees and task forces over the years including The Eastown Community Association, the Wealthy Street Business Alliance, and the Grand Rapids Red Project.
